WALKING WITH GOD, AND HIS FAMILY,
IN HIS MINISTRY, TO HIS WORLD

At the Germantown Church of Christ we consider it an honor and a privilege to share the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ whether inside or outside

of the United States. It's all His world.

INSIDE THE UNITED STATES

Inside the United States we are involved in numerous evangelistic efforts both on our campus and at other locations throughout the area. Every Lord's day, and also during the week, our ministerial staff is busy teaching the good news of Jesus Christ.

On Sundays we have worship services at 8:15 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 6:00 p.m. Bible Study is at 9:30 a.m. Our midweek Bible Study is at 7:00 p.m. each Wednesday except for the week of Thanksgiving when we meet on Tuesday night at 7:00.

There are several groups of ladies meeting for Bible study.  One group meets at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesdays from September to April. A second group meets at 11:00 a.m. every Wednesday. A third group meets at 7:00 p.m. every other Thursday. Please refer to the calendar on this webpage for the exact dates.

There is a Men's Bible Study group which meets at 7:00 a.m. every Tuesday morning in room 122.

Several times each year we also have special activities that are directed toward spreading the gospel from our campus. However, we are also reaching out to those in the area who cannot come to our campus.

Our prison ministry may be our most effective evangelistic program. The prison ministry reaches out to both male and female inmates in several of this area's prison facilities.

We provide Bible studies and worship services for several of the retirement communities in the area. The Bible studies include Germantown Plantation at 4:00 p.m. each Wednesday, and Kirby Pines at 10:00 a.m. each Thursday. The worship services include Germantown Plantation each Sunday at 8:30 a.m., the Village at Germantown at 10:30 a.m. on the third Sunday of each month, and 8:00 a.m. each fifth Sunday at Kirby Pines.

Bible Correspondence Courses and personal Bible studies are also available upon request. Additionally, Bible study materials and sermons are available on this website.

Many of our adults and teenagers are involved in short mission campaigns during the Spring Break and/or during the Summer. Our youth group usually does at least one domestic campaign each year and many of the teens go on additional mission trips as well. For additional information about our teens and their involvement in missions click here: youth group.

The Williams Family

Missionaries to Alotau, Papua New Guinea

The Germantown Church of Christ has been supporting the Williams family in Papua New Guinea since 2000. Leslie moved from his home in Canada to Papua New Guinea in 1982, spending two years working with the Mt. Hagen team. He left this work to study at Harding University, and completed his B.A. in Missions in 1988. While at Harding, he met and married LaVonna Lafferty, a Business Management major who was planning to do mission work in Scotland, until she met Leslie. Returning to Port Moresby in 1989, Leslie and Loopie worked with the Morata Church of Christ, and then the newly established Port Moresby Church of Christ from 1990 to 1994. During these years, their four sons were born (Logan, Zachary, Tate and Thomas). In 1994 Leslie took a six year Sabbatical to complete his Masters degree. With the support of the Germantown Church, upon graduation, Leslie and his family moved to Alotau in the Milne Bay Province. In 2005, Leslie and Loopie adopted a daughter named Bailey.

Paul and Sharita Nash

Missionaries to Cuernavaca, Mexico

In June of 2006 the Germantown church of Christ welcomed a new missionary team to our staff. Paul and Sharita Nash are taking the Gospel to Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico. Both Paul and Sharita are Bible and Missions graduates at Sunset International Bible Institute in Lubbock, Texas. Prior to arriving in Germantown, Paul served 25 years as an Area Manager for Shell Oil Company while Sharita led an active career in nursing. They have two grown children, Wayland and Savannah. The Nashes worked directly with the Germantown church of Christ before departing for Cuernavaca in January of 2007. When asked about their first impression of Germantown, the Nashes quickly stated, “We have simply been overwhelmed by the welcome of this church and the entire community of Germantown. What a loving community and place to live!”

Superb Support From The Smiths

It was truly a joy to have Russ and Bonnie Smith, from Memphis, join us in June and help with the work here in Cuernavaca.   They were real “troopers” and proved to be huge encouragers to Charita, the brothers and sisters here as well as myself.  In our eyes, they are both humble servants and “well worth keeping around”, HA!   We anxiously await their next visit.   They chose to share some words surrounding their experiences with the work in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico:

Latest Bulletin Information

….. Is The Time Worthwhile (Vale La Pena)? …..

From Paul Nash

…..“Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop – a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown (Matthew 13:8).    We have had another GREAT week in Cuernavaca!   We cannot believe we have been here long enough that a time of furlough is approaching.   It is amazing how time flies when you are “fishing”.   The minutes continue to count away quickly.   Each day we value our own knowledge of the Truth and the SIGNIFICANT importance of this in each of our lives!   There is nothing more important!    As the Mexicans here say, “Es muy importante – es mejor!”   With this being said, there is little time to argue what our mission is.   Jesus said, “Go into all the world and make disciples”.    He did not leave room for deliberation or debate.   We just need to see His vision for the church, make that vision our vision and spend our energy and our time searching for opportunities to implement it as quickly and as deliberately as possible.

This is “why” we love you!   You are our Partners in the Gospel!   You have not chosen to debate on whether you believe it is wise to “Send”.   You have just chosen to partner, sacrificially give, and send.    You have chosen to support and send missionaries all over the world.   This is “why” we love you!

….. Is The Time Worthwhile (Vale La Pena)? …..

As God continues to open doors, we have been planting His seed among the lost.   Although we have always realized that this is our task and the commandment at hand, the importance and weight of our task becomes even more evident with each passing day.   It is difficult to explain, in just a few short words, but; the task can be overwhelming and frustrating at times.   On the other hand, when the lost listen, see, and obey the Truth, it is “Vale la Pena”. Thank God for you and each of your tasks at hand in spreading the Gospel!   Please don’t take for granted your salvation, the opportunities that surround each of you, and your gifts to reach and teach those that have not heard and obeyed the Truth of God’s Word.

….. Is The Time Worthwhile (Vale La Pena)? …..

We pray daily for the growth of His church around the world.   We pray for our fellow missionaries.   We dream daily about the mission.   And, we also daily attempt to “keep our nets wet”.    We are planting and watering; God will continue to give the increase.   Remember, He has promised.    It is indeed “Vale La Pena”!!!     We love you and cannot wait to see you again and hug each of your necks.

Deliberately partnered with you in Cuernavaca So “That Others May Live,”

PAPUA NEW GUINEA

PNG Team April 2008
Dear Friends and Family,
A couple of weeks ago our team gathered for a picture after church.  We realized that it was going to be a while before the group would be intact again.  The Reeses left April 21 for their three month furlough.  We leave on May 26 for our 14 month sabbatical while Les teaches at Western Christian College.  Finally, the Fords will be leaving on their furough in the summer of 2009 so it really will be a while before our team is whole again.
We feel so blessed to be involved with these two wonderful families.  God was definitely at work in bringing us all together.  We look forward to being reunited again next year.
Love to all,
Loopie, Les, Thomas & Baylee

The following is the latest update from Leslie:

The tourism motto for Papua New Guinea is "Land of the Unexpected." However, the unexpected for us came from Canada this past month. Logan wrote us to announce that he and his fiance, Chante, had chased a whim and got married. they both have a birthday on April 18, and they thought it would be something to also have their wedding anniversary on the same day. Since Chante's father was visiting they got his permission, made plans and pulled off the elopement. Needless to say, Loopie and I are still getting used to the idea, but after making a quick trip in to Regina to visit with them, I am getting over the shock and can report that I am pleased to meet our new daughter-in-law. Chante is a wonderful (if somewhat spontaneous!) girl and all the great reports we have heard about her were confirmed. Loopie is eagerly awaiting the opportunity to get to know her as well.
While in Canada I was able to sit down and visit with the administration of Western Christian College and discuss teaching and housing issues for next year. We are getting wxcited about working with the school - it should be a great challenge.
On the home front, the church is responding wonderfully to the challenge of more responsibility. Philemon and John have taken the opportunity to teach and preach in my absence and the whole church planned a farewell meal for us this past Saturday. While the focus was on us, I could not help but remember all the success stories in the crowd. We reminisced about the early days of our work when it was just our family, the Reeses and the Ponifasios. All three local congregations were present so it was a wonderful time of fellowship for all.

 HUMANITARIAN AID TO UKRAINE

It is amazing how much you can stuff into a 40 foot shipping container bound for Donetsk, Ukraine. On October 23, 2006, members of the Germantown Church of Christ culminated a three month project to send humanitarian aid to the former Soviet Republic of Ukraine. Through the generosity of the members of the congregation and the community among the items included in this shipment were 28 hospital beds with mattresses and linens, over the bed tables, bedside cabinets, 60 boxes of medical supplies, dental equipment and supplies, orthopedic equipment, school supplies and several hundred bags of clothing and shoes. The container arrived in Ukraine in late December 2006 and these items were distributed to area hospitals, orphanages, and the poor. For additional information click here: UKRAINE.

GHANA, WEST AFRICA

“The Village of Hope” began in 1989 as an orphanage established by Christians in the United States and Ghana to care for orphaned, abandoned, destitute and needy children until they are able to take care of themselves or are adopted by a family. Since its establishment we have cared and provided help for many impoverished, hungry, and hurting children, some of whom have become faithful Christians. At the present time, the Village of Hope is caring for 115 children at the orphanage, and 51 children in foster homes. They are also providing meals for 82 “street” children in Ghana’s capital city of Accra.

GHANA MISSION REPORT FROM FRED ASARE

Greetings from the Village of Hope. Thank you all for coming and for serving so well to the glory of God. We truly are grateful that you could come and make an impact in the lives of not only the VOH children but also so many others in the school and at Ojobi.

The gospel meeting yielded much fruit. Eight people were baptized in Ojobi as a result of the preasching and teaching there. Six were baptized while you were here and two additional souls put on Christ last Sunday as a result of the follow-up that was done.

Eight Village of Hope children were baptized into Christ.

Seven students in the boarding houses of Hope Christian Academy were also baptized into Christ.

This means a total of twenty-three souls have put on Christ. The value: Immeasurable!

Donna Griffin Participates In Latest Medical Mission Team

School began in the week of January 21, and many more students have enrolled at Hope Christian Academy thanks to the excellent results that God grants our students every year. Our current student population stands at 528. Thanks be to God!

The Medical Outreach Clinic which involved staff of Andrea Browning Clinic and visiting brethren, was a great success and we are thankful to our Father for blessing us to be able to make an impact in the community.

The medical team went out on four different days to give consultation to the sick in the community. On January 21, they left the Village of Hope campus at dawn to travel to Asakraka in the Eastern Region of Ghana, where they were able to give help to 220 people who needed medical attention.

From January 23 to January 25 the team visited the neighbouring Senya community each day. Non-medical staff of the Village of Hope worked on each of these days as interpreters between the patients and the American team members. During the clinic, preachers also taught God's word to the people.

At the end of it all a total of 1106 patients including 5 physically challenged children were given medical care to the glory of God. We ask that you continue to commit the work of the Andrea Browning Clinic into the Lord's hands and pray for His blessings for the team that visited us at the Village of Hope.

   MEDICAL MISSIONS TRIP

 /files/Missions/Ghana/tn_Ghana07.jpg
On March 10, 2007, eighteen of our members left for the Village of Hope on a medical missions trip. Our medical missions team arrived safely back in Memphis on March 19. To view pictures of the work in Ghana click here: GHANA.

"This trip was a great success in many ways.  477 people were cared for in the name of the Lord Jesus.  Fred Asare, the director of the Village of Hope, told me that 4 baptisms occurred in Ojobe as a direct result of this clinic and the Gospel preaching that was done.  He said that since the mobile clinic, attendance at the Ojobe church has increased with many new visitors.  Also, he said attendance at the Adrian Browning medical clinic has been greatly boosted over the past few months.  This past Monday, they saw 50 patients in clinic; these numbers are the highest they’ve seen since starting the clinic a few years ago, and Fred believes our mobile clinic is a contributing factor.  In addition to all of this, lasting friendships were made not only between members of our group, but also with brothers and sisters half way around the world."
